McTimoney chiropractic
McTimoney is a particular type of chiropractic that is typically gentle in nature and involves very fast and precise adjustments. In general you do not hear any cracking or popping noises as the adjustments are made. McTimoney chiropractors assess and care for the whole body, not just the site of pain. The McTimoney method is named after its instigator, John McTimoney, who developed a gentle, whole-body approach from existing chiropractic techniques. In the region of one quarter of all chiropractors in the UK use the McTimoney method. Who can benefit from McTimoney chiropractic? McTimoney chiropractic has been found to be supportive for thousands of people for more than 30 years and it is rising by nearly 150,000 new patients per year. Over 8000 people are treated with McTimoney chiropractic each day. It is suitable for the whole family, from newborn babies to pregnant women to the elderly and even the family pet! Are McTimoney chiropractors registered with a professional body? All UK chiropractors are registered with the UK's statutory regulatory body for chiropractors, the General Chiropractic Council. This is the equivalent of a doctor being registered under the General Medical Council. How do McTimoney chiropractors train? To become a McTimoney chiropractor, you must complete a five-year degree course, which is accredited by the General Chiropractic Council and validated by the University of Wales, at the McTimoney College of Chiropractic in Oxfordshire. Like medics, chiropractors are required to embark on 30 hours of study each year in order to retain their registration. This ensures that their awareness and skills remain up to date.
