Choosing a Chiropractor

Chiropractor giving treatment

Chiropractors begin from the principle that good spinal alignment is essential to maintaining general good health, improved flexibility and posture, higher resistance to disease, better performance at sports and more energy for living. Spinal misalignment (Chiropractors refer to subluxations) distorts your nervous system and has been shown to have a negative effect on health.

Chiropractors diagnose, treat and prevent these spinal subluxations without drugs or surgery to reduce pain and restore good health. Chiropractors work with all the joints of the body, concentrating particularly on the spine, using their hands to make gentle, specific adjustments to improve the efficiency of the nervous system and unleash the body's natural healing ability. Common reasons to see a Chiropractor include:

  • Back pain, neck pain and shoulder problems
  • Joint pain and muscular problems
  • Leg pain and sciatica
  • Sports injuries

How we recommend individual Chiropractors

The Chiropractor Appointment Line takes special care that the Chiropractors we recommend deliver excellent care. We use the most reliable information available - patient feedback - to ensure that we are recommending Chiropractors who deliver high levels of satisfaction. This feedback process is supported by our Guarantee which means that we refund the initial consultation fee of any patient not satisfied with the Chiropractor we recommend.

In addition, are only eligible for referrals from the Chiropractor Appointment Line if there are no complaints about them currently lodged with the General Chiropractic Council.

Chiropractor Training

In the UK, the three courses offering full-time chiropractic education to national and international standards are at:

  • The Anglo European College of Chiropractic in Bournemouth
  • The Welsh Institute of Chiropractic at the University of Glamorgan
  • McTimoney College of Chiropractic, Accredited by University of Wales

These institutions offer a full-time degree course (4 or 5 years) in chiropractic and the degree course includes intensive training in a variety of subjects including life sciences, radiology, neurology, biomechanics, clinical medicine and differential diagnosis.

All of the Chiropractors to whom you will be referred by the Chiropractor Appointment Line are experienced and have received good feedback from other patients.

Professional Regulation

Chiropractor stretching and massaging

In common with medical practitioners and dentists, all Chiropractors are registered by law under the Chiropractors Act 1994 and the title 'Chiropractor' is protected under this legislation. The profession is statutorily regulated through the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) and
it is illegal to practise as a Chiropractor without being registered with the GCC. Chiropractors can only be registered if they have appropriate qualifications, are of good character and are physically and mentally fit.
