Health Professions Council Commended
The Health Professions Council which oversees regulation of physiotherapy provision within the UK has been praised for its performance by its own regulator, the Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence. The CHRE monitors the work of nine regulatory bodies and regularly reviews their performance for publication. HPC has been commended for its efficiency and marked out as an effective, publicly accountable regulator which has good communications with registrants and the public. The HPC was also congratulated for making it easy for people to check a professionals registration and for its advice to people with disabilities on becoming health professionals. Anna van der Gaag, the President of HPC welcomed the assessment and stated that the organisation was "committed to continuously improving our services to improve the protection of the public". The Chartered Society of Physiotherapists also welcomed the report. The CSP head of professional development, Sally Gosling, stated that "The CSP is keen to continue to work with the HPC in appropriate ways. Initiatives concerned with professionalism ... can also help to ensure that the health care professions are representative of the populations they serve".
